To make an herbal cleaning solution: Steep 1 cup of lavender, rosemary, sage, thyme, or herbal blend for 15 minutes in 4 cups of boiling water. Strain infusion. Stir in 1-4 tablespoons of Borax or baking soda. To use, apply with a sponge, rinse with clean water. For cleaning china, glassware, kitchen counters, appliances, walls, painted woodwork, bathroom fixtures. Make this mixture up each time you need it.

To make an herbal concentrate for heavy-duty cleaning jobs: In a clearly-labeled wide-mouthed jar, place 1/2 cup of Murphy’s Oil soap paste, add 1 tablespoon of your choice of lemon or orange essential oil, blending well; stir in more paste, as needed. To use: stir mixture thoroughly before measuring1-3 teaspoons of herbal concentrate to 4 cups of water. Apply to surface to be cleaned with a sponge or mop. Rinse with clear water. Can be stored for future use.

To make an herbal sink-scrubbing formula: In a glass bowl, pour 1 cup powdered calcium carbonate cleanser (Bon Ami), or 1/2 cup of borax and baking soda, add  1 1/2 teaspoons each lemon, orange, and grapefruit essential oils. Blend until smooth. Store in a glass jar. Wearing gloves when using this solution, use and apply with a sponge, nylon scrubbing pad, or loofah. Make this mixture up each time you need it.
